The General William C. Lee Chapter of the 101st Airborne Division is the regional chapter in Virginia for anyone who served in the past or is currently serving with the 101st Airborne.
We have members who have served in World War II, Viet Nam, Desert Storm, and at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in various eras. The majority of our membership resides in the Richmond and Norfolk/Hampton area, however, we do have members that live in other areas of Virginia.
We are a non profit veterans organization that gets together for business meetings, picnics, dinners, reunions and other activities to have a good time and share camaraderie.

101st AIRBORNE DIVISION ASSOCIATION 64th NATIONAL REUNION 9-13 SEPTEMBER 2009 HAMPTON HOLIDAY INN

We are hosting the 101st ABN DIV Association’s 64th National Reunion here at the Holiday Inn, Sept 9-13.  The 1st Brigade Reunion was a time of preparation for this one and if that was any indicator, we are in for a wonderful time.  The format will be changed from previous reunions in that the Memorial Dinner will be Saturday night and there is no awards dinner.  A new Saturday morning brunch and Association general membership meeting is added.  Unit dinners are Friday evening.  We will still operate the Hospitality Room, have raffles, Tours, a ladies Fashion Show and lunch, a Golf Scramble, and hopefully parachute jumps by the Division Parachute Team.

We will need members assistance in making this the “Best of the Best”!!  We will have the following committees: Registration, Transportation, Hospitality ( Bar, Food, Cleanup, Security), Raffles, Tours, Golf, Publications, Dinners & Programs, and overall supervision, so there is a place or places for all of us.

I know there are some of you who cannot make meetings but still plan to assist with the Reunion. You do not have to attend the meeting as long as we know you will help.  Let Fred Behrens or I know by calling, email or letter where you can assist.  Fred: (804) 598-2868, redbaron13@verizon.net , Jim: (757) 838-5654(h) or (757)344-7371(c). slick77@cox.net

Chapter Lifetime

Membership

The William C. Lee Chapter voted to institute a lifetime membership fee of $25.  To date 28 of our members have chosen to become Lifetime Members of the Chapter.  I will have two designs of a membership card at the meeting for your review before I get a batch made.  A link to a chapter membership application is available on this website (above).

Association Dues News

You can now enroll or renew your membership for five years for the price of four. That is, members may enroll or renew memberships for five years at a price of $101. In addition to saving money on the extended memberships, both members and the staff reduce the hassle of annual reminders and payments.   Another change the Board approved is to reinstate the $5 rebate to chapters who sign up new members or renew existing members.   Forms are available on the web site.  Please send applications to the Chapter who will process the application.

BE A “DOUBLE EAGLE”

The Association will present a “Double Eagle” Coin to honor their service in combat to active duty association members who wear “Old Abe” on both shoulders.

Veteran Members will earn a “Double Eagle” Pin by signing up at least one new member to the 101st ABN DIV Association or re-sign a former member who has not been active for at least two years.  The way to be credited for your  recruiting efforts is to ensure your name appears on the Association application on the “REFERRED BY” line and William C Lee for the Chapter affiliation.

Veteran's Day 2006

The General William C. Lee Chapter of the 101st Airborne Division Association participated in the 49th Annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Parade on Saturday November 4th, 2006.

The Urbanna Oyster Festival parade is the highlight of the weekend long festival held annually in the town of Urbanna, Virginia since 1958.  There were about 80 units participating in the parade and over 100,000 spectators lined the streets, waving and cheering!

Chapter members Fred Behrens, Mary Jean Terrell, Jim Shamblin, Ed Barbour, Walter Hein, Chuck Payne and his wife Carolyn, John Cline, Norwood Thomas, Roger Underwood, Keith Wolfe, Jamie Mitchell and Laura Jordan began the day by enjoying a nice all-you-can-eat “pancakes with all the fixin’s” breakfast put on by the Urbanna Masonic Lodge.  We then set out to enjoy the town, the food, crafts, vendors, bands and all the Festival festivities until time to line up for our debut in the big parade!

Waiting for the parade to begin!!

We had a wonderful banner provided by the National office that was proudly carried by Laura Jordan and Jamie Mitchell.

Chapter President CW2 Fred Behrens of Powhatan, VA brought his 1967 M274 Mechanical Mule complete with M-60 and we also had a 1970 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 Cargo/Troop carrier 2 ½ ton truck nicknamed "Daddy's Tonka VI" provided for our group by Stan Sitzman of Louisa, VA and co-piloted by Richard Crane of  Beaverdam, VA.

CHAPTER JUDGED BEST IN THE 2008 PARADE AT OYSTER FESTIVAL

The Chapter marched in the Urbanna Oyster Festival Parade in November. After a rainy morning the sun came out for and we had a great time in the parade.  It was wonderful to have folks stand, clap, and cheer as we passed.  It was also an opportunity also to pass out membership applications to the festival attendees who identified themselves as former Screaming Eagles.  We were presented a trophy for 2nd place Marching Unit in last years parade and while there also picked up our 1st place trophy for this years Specialty Marching Unit.  We had our own Oyster Roast.  Dave Laedbetter’s brother brought oysters and a grill and grilled some and shucked some and a feast was had by all !!!

IMPORTANT  DATES

Watch for news about a picnic at Jim Shamblen's on July 18th

The chapter is now offering "LIFE MEMBERSHIP" for $25.  The new membership form is available on this website. You can go online to www.screamingeagle.org for the association membership dues form.  When sending Association dues, please send them through me as we get $5 from each year and $20 for each 5-year membership for the Chapter.
