Pictures from the 58th Annual Reunion Held at Reno, Nevada

   Hope you enjoy the following pictures taken at the Reno Reunion in August 2003.

 

Sgt Frank Nugent & PFC Ralph Campoy (HQ Co. 1/506th PIR WWII).  Ralph told me he always wanted to "Push his SGT around" and finally was getting even.  Frank was a POW for about a year and "went on vacation" according to Ralph.  Ralph participated in the Normandy, Holland, and Bastogne campaigns.  After all the joking, both admitted they loved each other like real brothers.  

 

  L to R - SSG Ralph Younce (Albany, OR), CSM Robert A. Young (Green City, MO), and SSG Bud Turner (Walnut Creek, CA).  These three were recalling when they served together in various places like HHC 506th ABG at Fort Campbell 56-85. 

 

 

  Ken (D Co 463rd PFA WWII) and Nancy Hesler in the hospitality room at the Hilton Hotel.

 

 

  Jerry (E Co 3/506th lrrps) and Kaye Gomes from Oregon-Cascade Chapter.  Kaye made a jump with Olan D. Payne at the Ft. Campbell National Skydiving Club during the Week of the Eagle Celebration.

  Lloyd Rahlf (Reunion Vice Chairman) and Col Richard Hobbs. 

 

 

L to R - Russell Rodgers (San Francisco) and Joe Pistone (Reno, NV) (both F Co 502 PIR WWII) with historian Mark Bando from Detroit.  Russell was a replacement after Normandy.  Joe told him "Stick by me and you just might make it".  After that they both participated in the Holland and Bastogne campaigns.                      

 

 

 Gary and Carol Soules from Prineville, OR.  Gary served with E Co 2/506th Inf and also was a doorgunner for C Co "Phoenix" 158th Avn. Bn. in Vietnam (69-70).

Madeleine Lucas (widow of Lt. Col. Andre C. Lucas) and Larry Frazier.  Colonel Lucas was killed during the evacuation of Fire Base Ripcord, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the seige.

 

 

Rick Lencion1 (now Past Assn. President) leading the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter Color Guard at one of the evening dinners. These guys did a great job of filling in for the 101st Active Duty Honor Guard who were not available for service at the reunion due to the War in Iraq.

 

 

  Johnny Velasquez (B Co 2/502 Inf VN)  was installed as our Assn. President for the next two years.

 

 

Courtnay Johnson with her mother, Ruth Weisberg and Mark Bando.  Ruth is the widow of of Col. Ben Weisberg (377 PFA) WWII. 

 

 

Randy Kirby of Steamboat Springs, Co. received this special plaque for organizing a large group of 159th Aviation veterans to attend the reunion. There were 122 veterans, 166 attendees total including their wifes. Congratulation Randy and thanks for all your hard work!

 

 

Reunion Attendees from 1/501 and 1/502 Infantry VN. These guys called LZ Sally their home away from home in Vietnam.

  Randy Gilliam (B Co "Lancers" 158th Avn) was the recipient of a framed picture from the Ft. Campbell Historical Foundation.

 

 

  Bob Johnson (Gilroy, CA) also won a nice framed picture at a drawing in the hospitality room.

 

 

  Anthony "Chic" Chiarilli (B Co 907 GFA WWII) and Debbie Frazier.

 

 

  Terry Willman (B Co. 158th Avn Bn. VN) is the author of a recently published book "An Eagle's Eye View".  This book is the combat history of Army Helicopter Tail #67-17658,   "658" crashed on Fire Support Base Eagle's Nest on May 31, 1969.  To order a copy of this book visit http://www.aneagleseyeview.net
